A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
