Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

Officials reported wreckage landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
