Jurgen Klopp states a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a car crash alongside his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
