Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest victory of his professional journey by rebounding from a set down to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two occasions, this victory represents Norrie's maiden win over a sitting world number one.

"Enormous. Incredibly significant for me," said Norrie, who joins as the fifth English competitor in the record books to overcome a global number one. "Bouncing back from a physical setback last year, I was defeated in the initial match of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to appreciate my game in the closing months of the year. To secure a win like this, it's the most significant victory of my career, my initial victory over the top player and probably the most in-form competitor in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, ranked No 31, also stopped Alcaraz's dominant run of nine finals in a row and 17 straight premier event successes, which marked the finest stretch of results in the Spanish star's early professional path.

The top seed appeared to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he sailed through the first set. Nevertheless, the British contender gradually battled back into contention by executing with improved accuracy and pulling the Spanish opponent into prolonged, demanding exchanges.
