U.S. actor and playwright Jeremy O Harris, best known for the award-contending production Slave Play, was detained last month at an airport in Japan on suspicion of attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, authorities stated.

Harris, 36, was intercepted on 16 November at Naha airport, located on Okinawa, after a customs officer discovered 0.78 grams of a crystal material laced with the synthetic narcotic MDMA in his personal bag, according to a official statement.

Regional customs officials lodged a formal complaint with the public prosecutor to commence formal charging proceedings against the playwright.
