Supporters Call for Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was set to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised security officers at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande appeared surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Numerous of fans had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for outstanding attire and production design.
