The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
