The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when cast member the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
