The Three Lions to Start Euro 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated entry for a tournament hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

The Etihad Stadium has not welcomed an Three Lions game since May 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to welcome the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.

England are scheduled to play their last two group stage games at the national stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would occur at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Opening and Protest

The championship was launched at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they approached the site by approximately 50 activists, who called for Israel’s national side to be kicked out from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were raised with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Schedule

The first match of the European Championship will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a match that will involve the Dragons if they make it.

The national stadium will host both semi-finals and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.

It is anticipated that an afternoon start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will attract families and help engage a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that miss out on Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Venues and Playoffs

The Birmingham venue and Spurs’ ground round out the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Leadership Comment

“It will be a tournament for the fans and a festival of everything we value about the football – its passion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million admissions, a record for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
