Two Victims Named in Brown University Incident as Law Enforcement Persist in Manhunt for Perpetrator.
Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter carried on following the release by local law enforcement of the sole person of interest in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
The student Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.
Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow online, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, especially her parents.”
MukhammadAziz Umurzokov
The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.
His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a memorial statement.
Details of the Attack
An additional nine individuals were injured in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Authorities said late Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.
“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

The assailant began shooting inside a classroom in the engineering building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a handgun, a law enforcement official told the media outlet.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, loved ones, and peers and mourn the loss of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about thousands of bachelor's and postgraduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents reported in the US so far in the current year, according to statistics.
