Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
